This girl was wearing tattered brown pants and could barely have been over eighteen. After all, the princesses in storybooks always had long, floofy dresses and giant crowns. Surely enough, she was clutching onto the black t-shirt Marceline had thrown at her. By the looks of it, Marceline wondered if this used to be a human graveyard before the Mushroom War.Īs the duo approached the archway, Marceline noticed a figure standing beside one of the trees. Georgie led Marceline down the path to the venue exit, a giant archway surrounded by trees. The vampire didn’t want to get off on the wrong foot if she planned on staying in this area for a while. She really ought to find someplace with shade before morning, but, then again, it probably wasn’t smart to avoid the local royalty. Marceline lifted her instrument in one hand and her backpack in the other. Speaking of which, a princess from one of the local kingdoms wanted to speak with you.” He motioned towards the venue entrance. Marceline shrugged and closed the case of her instrument. I have to say, I was surprised you actually accepted. I knew it was worth sending that invitation to you. It was the stage manager, a three-foot-tall and gnome-like guy from a nearby forest. The vampire looked up from where she was packing her bass. The rest of her lyrics flowed easily, and throughout the concert, she kept noticing the color pink in the corner of her eye. The girl lowered it after a moment and the awestruck look on her face gave Marceline enough confidence to wink at her. The girl, who looked human sans her head-to-toe pink hue, was hit smack in the face with the shirt. Marceline felt the corners of her lips tilt up as she tossed the shirt. Her eyes landed on a girl in one of the back rows, eyes wide in admiration and clothes a bit tattered. Marceline scanned the audience, looking for someone to toss the shirt to. They didn’t need to know she was just a sweaty mess. Her bag was filled with mostly clothes, anyway, so what was one shirt lost? Besides, crowds always loved a bit of flashy showmanship. On a whim, she took off the graphic t-shirt she had nabbed from the mall just before she left. Between the high temperature and the fact she was running around on stage, Marceline was feeling mad sweaty for an undead person. Not to sound cocky, but she was talented enough that her final spot in any lineup felt deserved.Įven if the sky was dark and stars hung overhead, it was nearing summer and the crowd was bigger than she had anticipated. One cool part about being a vampire was that she always got to play last, only once the sky grew dark enough that she could emerge from the shade. Slime people, bipedal wolves, and… was that a fish person? ADVENTURE TIME PIRNCESS BUBBLEGYM NSKED FULLJust as she thought, this venue was near a few kingdoms, meaning the crowd was full of all sorts of creatures. This crowd was livelier than most she had performed for, cheering and clapping the entire time. All of the nerves left her body the instant she played that first note on her bass. “I think I sucked the red from this place dry.” Besides.” She kicked a shoe box on the ground and a colorless sneaker fell out. If anything happens, we’ll just find another shopping mall to set up camp at. She shoved the invitation into her pocket. Besides, it’s cool that my music is popular enough that it reached the other side of Ooo, right?” Regardless, his blank button eye conveyed exactly what Marceline needed to hear. Hambo was perched on top of the cash register next to a shoe that, before Marceline’s snack this morning, had been a glossy red. “What do you think, bud?” Marceline asked as she looked up from the invitation. It was hard, because Marceline had always been a sociable person at heart, but she couldn’t bring herself to uproot whatever semblance of a home she built here. It probably wasn’t healthy how many random family photos she had stuffed in her backpack. She would crash in old malls, broken cities, and dilapidated farms. Despite visiting a bunch of these newly emerging “kingdoms” and their weird, humanoid inhabitants, she never stayed long before returning to more obvious remnants of a pre-Mushroom-War world. Marceline had a bad habit of holing up in areas that reminded her of humans. She looked around at her makeshift home: a long-since-abandoned shoe store in a long-since-abandoned mall in a long-since-abandoned town. She hadn’t left this area of Ooo in over a century. It was exactly what she was looking for, except for one dilemma. The turnout would line her pockets for months, and she’d surely meet all sorts of new people. She had a general idea of what that area looked like, and it bordered quite a few kingdoms. It was for a concert on the other side of Ooo. Marceline stared at the invitation in her hand.

Thinking it was what they referred to as a “throw away” song, Desmond had apparently joked after they completed the album that he’d be able to “buy an electric razor” with the royalties, I venture he added a nice home as well to store that razor. Originally just a filler song to complete their million selling album Time Out it became a huge hit when re released 1961, they shortened it a bit to make it more suitable for Jukeboxes and Radio airplay, it sold a million copies that year and two million by 1967. While we are the topic of Jazz, the genres biggest selling single of all time is still Dave Brubeck’s 1959 release of “ Take Five” (composed in 5/4 time by Paul Desmond). The legendary Miles Davis, who was not a vocalist, sometimes moved out of his ‘instrumental’ world by providing backup music for singers from time to time. Jazz Trumpet player Chet Baker comes to mind and banjo and fiddle fenom Rhiannon Giddens moves seamlessly from the instrumentals to vocals. Jazz vocals are a regular part of many great instrumentalists, some perhaps are more well known for what they play rather than how they sing. Recorded by over 750 artists it may be the most covered instrumental work of all time (excluding some Christmas songs). The song “ Caravan” was first released in 1937 by Barney Bigard and His Jazzopators, it was composed by Juan Tizol and arranged by Duke Ellington. Peppers Album, their last was “Cry for a Shadow” as a tribute to the British Instrumental group The Shadows.įor genre that are generally considered to be outside of the Pop music world some may exist for the most part without any singing, the obvious being some Classical music and another choice would be various types of Jazz. The Beatles themselves recorded some instrumental songs though none of them were hits their first was as The Quarrymen and another while acting as Tony Sheridan’s backup band, as The Beatles there was “ 12 Bar Original” (not released until 1996), also “Flying” from the Sgt. In 1965, the same year “Yesterday” came out George Martin and His Orchestra released an instrumental version titled “ Scramble Egg“, while nobody uses the original working title there are over 500 non-vocal tracks of the song, such as a recent one by the Jazz guitarist Al Di Meola. There are of course instrumental versions of well known popular vocal songs, “ Over the Rainbow“(1939) is a melody everyone knows and since David Rose and His Orchestra released the first instrumental in 1942 there are at least three or four new versions every year, totalling into the many hundreds. These days pop artists rarely release singles without vocals, such fare is relegated to the odd addition on an album or in a live performance while the singer takes a break. At one time there would be several instrumentals on the mainstream charts, some would even hit #1. The instrumental Pop song is very much a thing of the past. But it’s not just that, it reminds me of someone very special an dear to my heart. Whenever I lose myself in the chaos that is life, I stop and look at my arm an take a deep breathe, an I know that everything will be alright. There are a lot of songs that mean a great deal to John but the one that really hits home is “Jupiter.” “Stay Positive & Love Your Life”, I have a half sleeve tattoo on my arm with that lyric on it. I was so overjoyed with happiness, with my girl wrapped in my arms, the two of us singing along, I realized where I was. It was at the ending of the song with it’s trippy bass solo S.A sing’s the lyric, “Come on yeah it will be alright, an we’re gonna take a ride I don’t know if will come back” I bursted into tears. Before 311 went into their Transistor Set on the last night, before taking a short break they had closed their first set with the song, “And A Ways To Go”. We are friends for life, that’s what 311 does, they connect you to other’s. All the people I met at Pow Wow I still talk to this day. We all helped each other out the entire weekend. If someone needed anything there was always somebody in our group to help, an not even in our group, there was just someone at the festival that would reach out an help, the 311 nation was alive an kicking. What was really cool to me was camping out in the woods an meeting/forming a family of excitables. “The Pow Wow experience for me was beyond incredible, so much so that driving back home I could not help but cry. So his total he says is a lot of shows! Favorite so far has been Pow Wow, with an honorable mention going to the cruise. #311 transistor all b sides plus#He does know that he’s never missed a tour since 1999, plus he’s been to three 311 Day events, a cruise, and Pow Wow. He was around 18 when he started to save the concert ticket stubs. In the song “Running”, I always find myself humming along to P-NUT’S bass line in that track, I can’t help it, it’s so good.” John also said one of the beautiful things about their music is that there is always a lyric of theirs that will fit any situation at any point in your life.Īn exact number John does not have in regards to amount of shows he’s seen. They all stand out on their own, they all have a voice. Another aspect is that you can take apart one of their songs an strictly listen to one band member. I started noticing that the most when I came across a lot their B-SIDE tracks. You can pin point which song comes from what album by the sound of his snare, it’s seriously incredible. “That piccolo snare on Chad’s kit was so legit. John took the CD out and discovered it was Soundsystem and that the song was “Freeze Time.” It was at that moment he became an excitable! He then dove deeper and deeper into their catalog of music, inevitably falling more in love. The song was so catchy I could not help myself but keep listening over an over again dancing around my room pretending like I already knew the lyrics.” After that awesome guitar intro the song got really heavy with these cool swells, and DJ scratch’s, that turned into (after listening back a million times) “ARE YOU READY FOR 311?” I was instantly hooked. He had left the CD in the stereo an I took it upon myself to keep playing back the 1st track on the album. “I remember him playing a certain song that had this really heavy guitar sound with this really cool CHUG rhythm in the intro that caught my attention. The two shared a room and one day before Tommy left for work he had been playing a particular song. His older brother Tommy, 12 at the time, was really into the band.
